Telefonica launches TU Me free all in one communications app for iphones. For Androids next.

Telefónica Digital  announced last Wednesday the launch of TU Me, a mobile app that enables communication and sharing via smartphones, keeping a record of every interaction through a simple, searchable timeline. TU Me offers one of the best integrated communications experiences on a smartphone and is now available to download from the Apple App Store. Free to use at launch, the service will continue to be developed with added value functionality.

TU Me is the first service from Telefónica Digital to launch directly to consumers and the first time Telefónica has launched a product worldwide, regardless of its operating markets.

Telefónica is committed to innovating in its core business of communications.  Over the coming months, it will also use the TU brand to launch a number of enhanced communications services which its O2, movistar and Vivo businesses will make available to customers as part of their bundles.

TU Me is designed to make it as easy as possible for people to communicate with their friends and family using their smartphone. Users of TU Me can exchange text messages, make calls, leave voice messages, share photos and location information. Interactions are stored in a timeline format, making it easy to view, scroll through and keep a history of conversations.

TU Me has been developed to offer the best communications experience in an app and is built to rigorous phone industry standards. It is the only app of its kind that stores your content in the Cloud so that it is always available whenever you log into the app, even if you lose your device. It is also the only app that lets you make calls, send voice messages, instant messages, photos and location from one control within one screen, with no need to switch apps or tabs.

TU Me is initially available for iOS users with the Android version to follow shortly. The service is available for free to anyone with an iPhone worldwide, regardless of their network operator, and works via their mobile data plan or over Wi-Fi.

TU Me is the first product from Telefónica Digital to launch under the new TU brand and reached the market less than six months from the formation of the unit.

'We’ve seen the growing popularity of communications apps on smartphones but we believe we’ve gone one better with TU Me using our knowledge and insights of how people use their devices,' said Stephen Shurrock, Chief Commercial Officer at Telefónica Digital. 'TU Me puts all your communications needs into one place, for free, and is a great way for people to stay in touch with those close to them. It’s also a testament to the innovation, speed and agility within Telefónica Digital.'

What is TU Me? The timeline way to text, talk and share for free.

Telefónica launches single pan-european mobile data tariff.

Telefónica launches single pan-european mobile data tariff.

• High-speed mobile web browsing in EU for just €2 a day • Travel tariff heralds worry-free smartphone roaming • Telefónica data roaming is up to 10 times cheaper than the EU regulator’s rate.

London/Madrid Telefónica today banishes 'bill shock' with the announcement of its first standard pan-European data roaming tariff – giving smartphone customers 25MB of high-speed Internet usage anywhere across the 27 European Union member states for just €2 (1) a day.

Telefónica‟s EU-wide tariff means mobile customers – on Movistar or O2 networks – will no longer have to worry about the cost of sending or receiving emails, updating their Facebook status or browsing the web on their smartphones when travelling or holidaying abroad.

For €2 a day, Telefónica is giving its smartphone customers travelling in the EU a data volume of 25 Megabytes – which translates to 250 visits to essential websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google or BBC Online and up to 500 emails (2). Additionally, customers will only pay for days they choose to use data, and will not be charged should they wish to switch off their phone.

The Telefónica tariff weighs in at a fraction of new price caps announced by the European Union yesterday – which ruled that as of 1 July, one data megabyte should cost no more than 70 cents, or €17.50 for 25MB.

On a per megabyte basis, Telefónica's European tariff works out considerably cheaper than the EU‟s regulated rate.

'You no longer need to switch off your smartphones when travelling within the EU, and neither do you need to worry about bill shock when you get home,' said José María Álvarez-Pallete, Chairman and CEO of Telefónica Europe. 'Our European data tariff gives our smartphone customers great value while allowing them to do what really matters – to stay connected wherever they are in a simple and transparent way and with complete peace of mind.'

Smartphone customers use on average around 6MB (3) in a day, but any Telefónica customers exceeding 25 MB will be immediately notified. The Pan-European tariff launched in Germany in May and will be available this summer to O2 and Movistar customers in Spain, United Kingdom, Ireland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Colombia: ZTE to provide managed services to Comcel.

ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, announced it has entered an agreement to provide managed services to Colombian mobile operator Comcel. The deal will make ZTE the largest managed services provider in the country. As part of the agreement, ZTE will provide managed services equipment including BTS and power equipment.

Owned by Mexican telecommunications company, América Móvil, Comcel has 30 million subscribers and is the largest mobile operator in Colombia.

In 2011, ZTE signed a contract to provide managed services to Telefónica-Telecom, the largest fixed line operator in Colombia. The company’s agreement with Comcel means it will provide services to more than 6,000 sites, the most of any provider in Colombia.

"We are pleased with the expansion of telecoms services in Colombia and the South American market,” said ZTE Columbia Vice President Zhang Dianjun. ”The agreement with Comcel will help the operator provide customised services to its users.”

ZTE provides a comprehensive range of high-quality wireless, wireline and access & bearer managed services to more than 100 million subscribers in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The company recently entered into partnerships with multinational operators such as Telenor, Teliasonera, Telefonica, Orange, H3G, MTN, KPN, STC and ZAIN.

Space: Soyuz TMA-04M launched on flight to space station.

A Russian Soyuz spacecraft carrying one of the world's most experienced space fliers, a rookie cosmonaut and a NASA shuttle veteran blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan late Monday U.S. time, climbing away through a cloudless blue sky to kick off a two-day voyage to the International Space Station.

If all goes well, the ferry flight will boost the lab's crew back to six just in time for the long-awaited launch of a commercial cargo ship Saturday, the first of a new breed of private-sector spacecraft needed to keep the station supplied in the wake of the space shuttle's retirement.

The Russian Soyuz TMA-04M spacecraft rumbled to life on time at 11:01:23 p.m EDT (GMT-4; 09:01:23 a.m. local time Tuesday), roughly the moment Earth's rotation carried the Site 1 launch pad into the plane of the space station's orbit.

"Everything's OK on board, we feel good," commander Gennady Padalka radioed as the rocket arced away to the East.

Padalka, who logged 586 days in orbit during a long-duration flight aboard the Russian Mir lab complex and two aboard the International Space Station, monitored the automated ascent from the central seat of the Soyuz TMA-04M's cramped command module. He was flanked on the left by Russian flight engineer Sergei Revin, a space rookie acting as co-pilot, and on the right by NASA educator-astronaut Joseph Acaba, veteran of a 2009 flight aboard the shuttle Discovery.

Acaba said before launch that he was looking forward to his first ride aboard a Soyuz spacecraft, adding that he was confident the Russian launcher would provide a safe ride following a string of recent problems with other Russian launchers and spacecraft.

"We should never fool ourselves that going into space is an easy thing and that it's without risk," he said in an interview. "(But) the Soyuz has been one of the most reliable vehicles we've had to take us into space. So I feel really good about riding on one, I feel comfortable with the analysis that was done. ... And I'm also very fortunate to fly with one of the most experienced cosmonauts on the planet. (Padalka is) very well trained and if we do experience any kind of problem, I feel confident as a crew that we'll be able to get back safely."

As he expected, the eight-minute 45-second climb to space went smoothly and Acaba and his crewmates appeared relaxed and in good spirits in live television shots from inside the cramped command module. Moments after separation from the Soyuz rocket's upper stage, the capsule's solar panels and antennas unfolded and Russian flight controllers said the vehicle was in good shape as it set off after the space station.

"Congratulations on the successful launch," a Russian flight controller radioed.

"Thank you very much," Padalka replied.

"Everything looks OK here on the ground, telemetry looks good. The ascent was nominal, so enjoy your work. We'll wish you best of luck."

The flight plan calls for the Soyuz to rendezvous with the International Space Station early Thursday -- Acaba's 45th birthday -- maneuvering to an automated docking at the lab's upper Poisk module around 12:38 a.m. to kick off a four-month stay. Standing by to welcome the crew aboard the station will be Expedition 31 commander Oleg Kononenko, European Space Agency astronaut Andre Kuipers and NASA flight engineer Donald Pettit, who were launched to the lab last Dec. 21.

"The on-orbit vehicle is in excellent condition," Kirk Shireman, deputy manager of the space station program, told Padalka, Revin and Acaba during final preparations for flight. "I know your crewmates in space are anxiously awaiting your arrival. It will be a busy time for you. Here in just a few days after your launch will be the launch of the first commercial space vehicle from the United States.

"In addition, of course, you'll have a (Russian) Progress vehicle (arriving), a Japanese HTV (cargo ship) and many activities associated with those vehicles coming and going. And finally, I know you'll have a busy scientific mission. There are over 215 investigations affecting over 400 scientists here on the ground and so lots of important research for you to conduct. I wish you the best of luck and despite your busy schedule, I hope you have some time to enjoy the wonderful view."

Right off the bat for the new crew members will be the launch of an unmanned Dragon cargo ship built by Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX. This will be the second test flight of a Falcon 9/Dragon spacecraft but the first to go all the way to the space station.

Launch from complex 40 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is targeted for 4:55 a.m. Saturday. After exhaustive tests to make sure the Dragon is operating properly, the spacecraft will maneuver to within about 30 feet of the space station on May 22 and await capture by the lab's robot arm. If all goes well, the Canadian-built space crane, operated by Pettit and Kuipers, will pull the Dragon capsule in for berthing at the Earth-facing port of the forward Harmony module.

"As it's approaching, we'll get the robotic arm and get it in a location that this vehicle's going to approach," Acaba said. "Then at one point, we'll send a command where the vehicle goes into free drift where there are no engines firing. Then we ... take the robotic arm and grapple this little pin that's attached (to the Dragon capsule) and once we grab it, we take it and actually attach it to the space station.

"So it's a fairly dicey operation, there's a lot of room for things to go wrong and you really want to make sure you grab it. ... We're hoping for the best on all that, but we train for situations that are far worse than we ever expect. So I think we're ready for most things that might happen to us."

Hatches will be opened the day after berthing and the crew will begin unloading about 1,150 pounds of food, clothing and other low-priority items. The capsule then will be repacked with around 1,455 pounds of trash and no-longer-needed components and detached from the space station on May 31. From that point, SpaceX plans to guide the craft back to Earth for a parachute descent to a Pacific Ocean splashdown.

The Dragon launch originally was scheduled for early February, but the flight has been repeatedly delayed to give engineers more time to test the complex flight software that will guide the spacecraft through its rendezvous with the station.

"We closed out a lot of work over the last couple of weeks; there was a lot of software that's been rechecked and validated by the space station program," said Mike Horkachuck, a senior NASA manager working with SpaceX. "They did an end-to-end test of the data system as well as another stage test, checking all the software functionality as it relates to space station, looked at a lot of the changes that have been done on the software and gotten comfortable that all those changes were acceptable."

Acaba said he considered it an honor to be on board the station for the first commercial cargo mission.

"It is a very complicated launch demonstration and then the crew has to actually go and grapple the vehicle and attach it to the space station," he said. "None of that is easy. We realize that, so we wish them all the best this week."

If the test flight goes well, SpaceX hopes to begin routine cargo delivery missions in August.

Kononenko, Kuipers and Pettit are scheduled to return to Earth on July 1 aboard their Soyuz TMA-03M spacecraft. At that point, Padalka, Revin and Acaba will make up the core members of the Expedition 32 crew with Padalka serving as commander. Three fresh crew members -- cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshide -- will join the ISS-32 crew two days after launch July 15 aboard the Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft.

Amazon may launch a monochrome e-reader with front lighting in July , a new 8.9 inches Kindle Fire 3G and Wi-Fi for holidays.

Amazon may launch a monochrome e-reader with front lighting in July , a new 8.9 inches Kindle Fire 3G and Wi-Fi for holidays.

The devices will run on E Ink's display. Amazon's Kindle e-reader has been popular, but readers have had to buy an external light to attach to the device to read in the dark. The front light eliminates that problem.

"They can afford to add a front light because the component is not very expensive and their display otherwise uses very little energy," said Jennifer Colegrove, Vice President of Emerging Display Technologies at DisplaySearch, an NPD Group company, which monitors trends in the display sector.

Amazon also plans to launch a new tablet closer to the holiday season later this year, the source said. The new Kindle Fire is expected to have a bigger diagonal display of 8.9 inches, bringing it closer in size to Apple Inc's iPad. The company did not respond to calls or emails seeking comment.

Amazon will launch the new Kindle e-reader in the touch 3G and touch wi-fi versions, Reuters said.

Germany: Is Apple buying Loewe for making Smart TVs.?

Germany: Is Apple buying Loewe for making Smart TVs.?

Shares in German luxury TV maker Loewe jumped to a 10-month high today on market talk of a potential offer from Apple.

Web log AppleInsider cited a source familiar with the matter as saying Apple was willing to pay €87.3 million (S$141 million), or a 48 per cent premium on Loewe's closing price on Friday of €4.5390 per share.

According to Australian publication Smarthouse, AppleInsider's unnamed source claimed Loewe "has been advised by its financial advisor to accept the offer and a final decision is scheduled to be announced internally before May 18".

A spokesman for Loewe said that management at the moment has no indication or information that Apple wants to participate in Loewe. Apple declined to comment.

A German trader said such a deal could make sense. "Look at Loewe's design. That is a big 'yes', I would say."

"The only problem is Loewe makes its TVs in Germany," he added.

Loewe, founded in 1923 in Berlin, offers high-end home entertainment sets and has a market capitalisation of €59.1 million, according to Thomson Reuters data.

The company already offers apps for the iPad to remotely operate their home entertainment sets. (see first picture above)

The news has fuelled talk that Apple is moving into the TV market with its Apple TV, in part driven by Apple founder Steve Jobs' posthumous biography, where his biographer Walter Isaacson recorded Jobs saying "I finally cracked it" with respect to a new model of television.

Is HP`s Todd Bradley hinting webOS tablets on the HP`s tablets roadmap?

Is HP`s Todd Bradley hinting  webOS tablets on the HP`s tablets roadmap?

In a recent  Q&A  session made at the HP Global Influencer Summit 2012, held over two days in Shanghai last week, the first question asked of Mr Todd Bradley, head of HP's newly merged Personal and Printing Systems (PPS) Group, was about tablets, he dropped hints that there may be more to its tablet strategy that the world has yet to see.

"That's not to say that (our stated strategy) is forever. I think it's clear that the market's evolved, the market's changed," he said. "I think when we announce the roadmap for tablets you'll see a very compelling solution set that the tablet becomes part of."

HP's senior vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region for the PPS group, Mr Dion Wiesler  echoed Todd Bradley saying:

"I think what we've learned about tablet devices are that they benefit from three key things. Always on, always connected, thin and light, long battery life,"

Sounds like a webos tablet on HP`s roadmap . After all we take HP`s CEO Meg Whitman word :
HP wanted to clarify that Whitman said HP could make WebOS-powered tablets in 2013.
While we know that HP is ceasing development of WebOS in phones, it’s interesting that the company is continuing to bet on the OS in tablets, said techcrunch.
With respect to whether HP can be a consumer and an enterprise company, Whitman believes that the company can continue to do both and says that the company’s current strength is that it is able to be successful in both product areas. “If you ask any guy on the street about what HP is known for, it would be computers,” she says, in an interview made  by techcrunch

In April 5,2012 we wrote about this related news:

India: HP we continue to study the tablet market. A new webOS tablet ?

The probability of a new webOS tablet  for early 2013 is high. The Stingray,OPal, or Topaz or.........webOS tablet perhaps?

Note: The code names Stingray, Opal and Topaz were before found  for webOS devices in 2011 and we are just guessing these names here.

USA: SIRI : What`s the best smartphone ever? "Nokia Lumia 900 4G Mobile Phone Cyan AT&T" . What?

According to thenextweb , they made a question to iPhone`s SIRI Ai, SIRI  What`s the best smartphone ever? and SIRI answered "Nokia Lumia 900 4G Mobile Phone Cyan AT&T"

The answer is simply because Siri bases its answer to that particular question on results from Wolfram Alpha, which itself draws from users reviews Web-wide, thenextweb says.

User satisfaction for the Lumia 900 in the United States happens to be very high, hence why WA will tell you that it’s the ‘best smartphone ever’.

If you have an iPhone 4S and a Nokia Lumia 900 4G AT&T , you can find the differences by yourself.
