TU Me is designed to make it as easy as possible for people to communicate with their friends and family using their smartphone. Users of TU Me can exchange text messages, make calls, leave voice messages, share photos and location information. Interactions are stored in a timeline format, making it easy to view, scroll through and keep a history of conversations.

TU Me has been developed to offer the best communications experience in an app and is built to rigorous phone industry standards. It is the only app of its kind that stores your content in the Cloud so that it is always available whenever you log into the app, even if you lose your device. It is also the only app that lets you make calls, send voice messages, instant messages, photos and location from one control within one screen, with no need to switch apps or tabs.

TU Me is initially available for iOS users with the Android version to follow shortly. The service is available for free to anyone with an iPhone worldwide, regardless of their network operator, and works via their mobile data plan or over Wi-Fi.

TU Me is the first product from Telefónica Digital to launch under the new TU brand and reached the market less than six months from the formation of the unit.

'We’ve seen the growing popularity of communications apps on smartphones but we believe we’ve gone one better with TU Me using our knowledge and insights of how people use their devices,' said Stephen Shurrock, Chief Commercial Officer at Telefónica Digital. 'TU Me puts all your communications needs into one place, for free, and is a great way for people to stay in touch with those close to them. It’s also a testament to the innovation, speed and agility within Telefónica Digital.'

What is TU Me? The timeline way to text, talk and share for free.

TU Me is a free, all-in-one global communicator that puts text, calls, shared photos and more on a brilliantly simple timeline. It's easy to search, view and scroll through your conversation history.

TU Me is available as a free download in Apple’s AppStore or visit www.tumeapp.com for more information or to sign up to receive information about upcoming releases for other operating systems.

Telefónica launches single pan-european mobile data tariff.

Telefónica launches single pan-european mobile data tariff.

• High-speed mobile web browsing in EU for just €2 a day • Travel tariff heralds worry-free smartphone roaming • Telefónica data roaming is up to 10 times cheaper than the EU regulator’s rate.

London/Madrid Telefónica today banishes 'bill shock' with the announcement of its first standard pan-European data roaming tariff – giving smartphone customers 25MB of high-speed Internet usage anywhere across the 27 European Union member states for just €2 (1) a day.

Telefónica‟s EU-wide tariff means mobile customers – on Movistar or O2 networks – will no longer have to worry about the cost of sending or receiving emails, updating their Facebook status or browsing the web on their smartphones when travelling or holidaying abroad.

For €2 a day, Telefónica is giving its smartphone customers travelling in the EU a data volume of 25 Megabytes – which translates to 250 visits to essential websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google or BBC Online and up to 500 emails (2). Additionally, customers will only pay for days they choose to use data, and will not be charged should they wish to switch off their phone.

The Telefónica tariff weighs in at a fraction of new price caps announced by the European Union yesterday – which ruled that as of 1 July, one data megabyte should cost no more than 70 cents, or €17.50 for 25MB.

On a per megabyte basis, Telefónica's European tariff works out considerably cheaper than the EU‟s regulated rate.

'You no longer need to switch off your smartphones when travelling within the EU, and neither do you need to worry about bill shock when you get home,' said José María Álvarez-Pallete, Chairman and CEO of Telefónica Europe. 'Our European data tariff gives our smartphone customers great value while allowing them to do what really matters – to stay connected wherever they are in a simple and transparent way and with complete peace of mind.'

Smartphone customers use on average around 6MB (3) in a day, but any Telefónica customers exceeding 25 MB will be immediately notified. The Pan-European tariff launched in Germany in May and will be available this summer to O2 and Movistar customers in Spain, United Kingdom, Ireland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Telefónica announces major mobile content play with Electronics Arts (EA).

Telefónica announces major mobile content play with Electronics Arts (EA).

- O2 can now offer customers latest titles from the worldwide leader in mobile gaming.

- Creates a powerful platform for building brand engagement, driving customer loyalty and increasing the take-up of games on mobile.

Telefónica Digital today unveiled its latest play in its global gaming strategy by entering a strategic relationship with EA Mobile™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq: EA), which will allow customers to access its world leading games on their mobiles. The service will be available first through O2 in the UK followed by other Telefónica markets.

The deal will give Telefónica's operating businesses the ability to create innovative gaming promotions using titles from the EA catalogue of consumer favourite brands such as The Sims™, FIFA or MONOPOLY. The objective is to make it easy for customers to find the games that they are familiar with and to drive the uptake of mobile gaming, particularly amongst feature phone users.

In the UK, O2 will offer its customers three months of free access to all EA Mobile games following their first download. It is then examining a number of potential promotions or special 'gaming subscription' services to offer customers.

'Our relationship with EA Mobile puts us as the epicentre of mobile gaming – which accounts for the highest percentage of downloaded Apps and is the largest paid mobile content market today,' said Matthew Key, Chairman & CEO of Telefónica Digital.  'By making a differentiated play in this most emotive and immersive entertainment medium we are fostering a much deeper connection with our customers – another significant step in becoming a true aggregator of experiences.'

Bernard Kim, Senior Vice President, Global Social and Mobile Publishing of EA Mobile said: 'Our mission is to deliver games that consumers love – anywhere, anytime, and on any platform they want to play. We know that at least a quarter of mobile users in Europe are playing games on their phones. Our relationship with Telefónica helps more people discover our games, and removes barriers for subscribers to enjoy an entire library of our most beloved titles.'

Industry analyst IHS Screen Digest predicts continued impressive growth in the mobile games business. Fuelled by rapid expansion in 3G adoption, smartphone and tablet gaming, the global mobile games market will be worth almost £8bn (€9bn) by 2015, almost double the £4.3bn expected in 2011.

Jack Kent, Mobile Media Analyst at IHS Screen Digest, said: 'Mobile games have been driving the wider mobile applications business, with games the largest content category on all leading application stores. As the mass appeal of mobile games increases, consumers are embracing new forms of content and business models, with free games monetised by micro-transactions – such as in-app purchases – driving growth.'

Telefónica Digital has not only underlined its commitment to O2 customers by offering the best gaming experience – through a combination of exclusive promotions and unbeatable value subscription services – but also opened significant new revenue growth opportunities through in-game advertising and media partnerships.

Telefónica and Mozilla pioneer first Open Web Devices.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Telefónica and Mozilla pioneer first Open Web Devices

- Enabling HTML5 devices running on the Open Web which can deliver smartphone capabilities at feature phone prices.

- Capabilities being submitted to W3C for standardisation and to be made openly available.

- Opens up new opportunities for application developers and drives forward HTML5 as a cross-platform standard.

Telefónica Digital and Mozilla unveiled an ambitious strategy to create a new mobile platform that will deliver the first HTML5 based devices running on the open Web. The Open Web Devices platform (OWD), which will launch in 2012,is an important step forward in the establishment of HTML5 as the next major ecosystem for smartphones, and will enable the delivery of smartphone capabilities at low price points.

Telefónica Digital’s product development and innovation team has worked closely together with Mozilla, the pioneers of open Web standards, to create a new phone architecture that relies entirely on the Web, enabling HTML 5 applications with absolute access to core phone APIs. This means that all of the device’s capabilities (calling, messaging, browsing, games etc) can be developed as HTML5 applications and executed via an experience based on the Firefox Web browser.

Despite the significant gains in performance for Web Technologies on mobile devices, HTML and JavaScript-based applications have had limited access to the device’s underlying capabilities. This platform will lead the evolution of the HTML5 set of standards to add new software APIs that are as broad and functionally rich as their native counterparts.

Mozilla’s Boot to Gecko Project unlocks the current limitations of Web development for mobile by providing new features and APIs that will demonstrate just how powerful HTML5 can be and that it is possible to run an entire device using this technology. In doing so it is possible to remove much of the middleware and other superfluous software on a device which not only makes the applications run faster, but also brings down the device unit cost.

Because of this initiative’s commitment to openness, this reference implementation will be submitted for standardization to W3C. The objective is that there are no proprietary APIs within the device architecture, making phones developed using it the only truly open devices on the market.

Telefónica and Mozilla are developing this HTML5 operating system on a hardware platform that is based upon a Qualcomm chipset. The three companies will be collaborating to deliver a feature rich prototype platform that will enable smartphone capabilities at feature phone entry level pricing.

An operating system based on HTML5 offers significant opportunities for application developers, content owners and service providers, both in terms of enabling new capabilities, as well as making it easier to develop, deploy and maintain their applications.

According to Carlos Domingo, Director of Product Development & Innovation at Telefónica Digital: 'Telefónica's objective is to drive HTML5 adoption across the industry. For the first time the capabilities of HTML5 and the open Web have been fully leveraged to create an entirely new mobile platform. From our experience in Latin America we know that a huge part of the market is not being catered for by current smartphones. With new open Web devices we will be able to offer a smartphone experience at the right price point for these customers.'

'It has long been our mission to deliver advanced Web technologies that eliminate roadblocks for users and developers. We did it first with Firefox, and now we’re doing it again in creating the first Open Web Devices,' said Brendan Eich, CTO,Mozilla. 'By providing the missing links, Mozilla is now unlocking the power of the Web as the platform for creating and consuming rich content everywhere.'

Arno Gourdol, Senior Director, Web Platform & Authoring at Adobe, which supports the project, said, 'Adobe is pleased to see Telefonica and Mozilla launch this new initiative. We continue to invest in HTML5 products and technologies and support standards bodies like the W3C. The Open Web Devices APIs can be supported as extensions to PhoneGap, enabling developers to create rich HTML5 apps that work across these new Open Web Devices and all of the platforms supported by PhoneGap, including Android, BlackBerry, iOS and Windows Phone.'

Telefónica R + D started working on the OWD concept at the start of 2011, and developed an initial prototype for negotiations with potential partners. When Mozilla announced the 'Boot to Gecko' project to create the open Web platform, based on its popular Firefox browser, in July 2011, both companies embarked on a collaboration that resulted this week in the platform being unveiled.

MWC 2012: Samsung to deliver first Android devices to use Telefónica Dual Persona service, powered by VMware ®

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

PR:

Telefonica to Launch Dual Persona Service for Mobile Devices, Powered by VMware ®

New Telefónica Dual Persona service, powered by VMware® Horizon Mobile™, will enable two phones-in-a-phone, one for private personal use and another for business use

VMware Horizon Mobile extends enterprise-grade security and management to employee owned mobile devices with Telefónica cloud-based management service

Samsung to deliver first Android devices to use Telefónica Dual Persona service

BARCELONA – Feb. 28, 2012. Today at Mobile World Congress, Telefónica Digital and VMware®, Inc. announced the launch of the new Telefónica Dual Persona service.  Powered by VMware Horizon Mobile™, the new service will provide a simple way for IT departments to securely provision, manage and de-provision a corporate mobile workspace (email, applications, data, etc.) to an employee’s Android device over-the-air, while enabling the employee to better retain the privacy and control of their personal mobile environments.
Telefónica Dual Persona service for Android devices will be available in the second quarter of this year. Additional information on pricing and countries where the services will launch will be made available in the coming months. Both companies are working to make the solution available for other operating systems and mobile platforms in the future.
The companies also confirmed today that the Galaxy SII by Samsung will be the first handset to support the Telefónica Dual Persona service. Samsung is expected to offer service compatibility with all of its devices in the coming months.
Smartphones: The New Corporate Mobile Workspace

The increased computing power of modern mobile devices, coupled with the rise in the number of business ready mobile applications, has resulted in the growing need for companies to manage device lifecycles and the provisioning of mobile applications used by employees. Furthermore, the widespread popularity of smartphones in the consumer market has increased the number of personal devices used in the work environment.

According to Forrester (Forrsights: Mobility Dominates Enterprise Telecom Trends In 2011, July 22, 2011), 60 percent of companies now allow their employees to use personal smartphones and tablets at work and this trend is increasing. The influx of personal devices makes the management of mobile phones and the lifecycle of mobile applications more complicated and creates security and manageability issues for corporate IT organizations.  Meanwhile, employees are becoming progressively more concerned about personal data privacy and worry that management and control of their smartphones by IT administrators could be intrusive.
Telefónica Dual Persona Service, Powered by VMware

Powered by VMware Horizon Mobile, the Telefónica Dual Persona service will be offered as part of the Telefónica Cloud Computing service catalog.  In addition to dual persona support for Android devices, the Telefónica Cloud Computing catalog helps companies more effectively manage their databases, virtual desktops (PCs) and applications by offering easy to consume cloud-based services.

The Telefónica Dual Persona service will enable IT managers to provision and manage an employee’s work profile and mobile applications via a cloud-based instance of VMware Horizon Mobile. Because of this separation, when an employee leaves the company or if a device is lost or stolen, business will be better able to safely and securely remove corporate information from mobile devices, while not having access to an individual personal profile.
The user experience will be intuitive and similar to that of a conventional smartphone on both profiles. Users will be able to switch from one profile to another with a simple click of an app, and they will receive both work and personal notifications within both profiles.
According to Moisés Navarro, Director of Strategy and Cloud Services at Telefónica Digital, “The Dual Persona service brings benefits to both employees and companies – the employee can use just one device, for both personal and work use while still maintaining privacy – the company gains greater control and security over corporate information, increased efficiency and cost savings on mobile devices, less provisioning and incident management time and greater employee satisfaction.  Importantly, this is all made available via a cloud-based, pay-per-use model”.
“Powered by VMware Horizon Mobile, Telefónica Dual Persona service will enable enterprises to securely customize and manage an employee’s corporate mobile workspace in isolation from their personal smartphone environment,” said Brian Byun, Vice President and General Manager, End-User Computing, Mobile for VMware.  “We are excited to bring this technology to market with Telefónica and Samsung.  Horizon Mobile embraces personal freedom and enhances employee productivity by delivering a preconfigured, device-independent corporate mobile workspace that is customized to an employee’s responsibilities.”
Samsung is working closely with Telefónica and VMware to expand the availability of “VMware ready” devices this year.
“With the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ trend growing faster than ever in enterprise sector, Telefónica’s Dual Persona service will undoubtedly be the compelling solution to propel this trend,” said Eric Moon, Director of Enterprise Business Team, Mobile Communication Division at Samsung Electronics. “We are very confident that enterprise decision-makers will embrace Samsung mobile devices along with the Dual Persona service thanks to the flexibly provided to both employees and corporate IT. For employees they will have the ability to securely mix work and play on a single Samsung device.”

HP Recognizes Telefónica with 2011 Technology Services Customer Achievement Award .

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- At its Technology Services Leadership Summit, HP today named Telefónica S.A. the 2011 Technology Services Customer of the Year for successfully using HP expertise over the past year to drive its business forward.

HP has been collaborating with Telefónica, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, for more than 30 years.

Over the past seven years, Telefónica has expanded its relationship with HP from basic reactive services to multivendor support and infrastructure consulting. HP recently initiated an effort to help Telefónica migrate individual email platforms from multiple countries to one centralized global email platform, providing greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

“As a leader in the telecommunications sector, Telefónica’s business depends on a reliable technology infrastructure that is flexible enough to meet demands in the future,” said Joaquin Castano Gomez, director, Global Infrastructure and Workplace Services, Telefónica. “By collaborating with HP, not only do we receive excellent technology support, but we also gain a trusted advisor who understands our business and helps us meet ever-changing needs.”

Telefónica was selected by a panel of experts that evaluated the complexity of services, innovation strategy and collaboration with HP Technology Services in 2011. Telefónica’s willingness to partner with HP to develop strategy and proactively resolve issues set the company apart from the other nominees. This partner relationship is the model that both companies strive for and is a leading example in the industry.

“To maximize technology investments, clients need a partner who can support IT solutions and help plan for the organization’s future,” said Antonio Neri, senior vice president and general manager, Technology Services, HP. “By working closely with HP Technology Services, Telefónica receives personalized technology consulting and support to help expand its global business.”

HP services help business and governments in their pursuit of an Instant-On Enterprise. In a world of continuous connectivity, the Instant-On Enterprise embeds technology in everything it does to serve customers, employees, partners and citizens with whatever they need, instantly.

HP’s premier client event, HP DISCOVER, takes place June 4- 7 in Las Vegas.
