CTIA2012: Samsung (Galaxy S3)and Visa showcase mobile payments at the London 2012 olympic and paralympic games.

Samsung Electronics and Visa today announced that the Samsung GALAXY S III, the latest in smartphone innovation, will be Samsung’s Olympic Games Phone during the London 2012 Games.

A limited edition showcase device enabled with Visa’s mobile payment application, Visa payWave, will be available for Samsung and Visa sponsored athletes and trialists, making it possible to buy merchandise with a wave of the device at thousands of retail locations throughout London.

Samsung’s Olympic Games phone for the London 2012 Games, comes equipped with Near Field Communication (NFC) payment capability and is the next step in the partnership between the two global Olympic Games sponsors as they work together to drive the availability of commercial mobile payments around the world.

“Mobile payment services enabled by NFC technology are gaining momentum around the world. The Samsung GALAXY S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind and is the ideal device to showcase the ease and convenience of Visa’s mobile payment application at the London 2012 Olympic Games,” said DJ Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales and Marketing team of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

By the time of the Olympic Games there will be more than 140,000 contactless terminals around the UK. From the moment visitors land at Heathrow they will be immersed in a contactless payment experience with everything from taxis, to retail outlets, to the Olympic Park itself.

Sandra Alzetta, Senior Vice President of Mobile at Visa Europe says: “Mobile technology has long been a revolutionary force in our lives and NFC-enabled devices such as the Galaxy S III will fundamentally change the way we pay. The future is mobile and cash usage will only continue to decline as people use their mobile devices to manage their money, shop and pay. This summer our partnership with Samsung will showcase all the advantages of the future of payments: security, convenience, speed and flexibility being forefront among them.”

“The GALAXY S III with NFC technology is part of an evolution that will entirely change the way people shop, pay and get paid all over the world,” said Bill Gajda, Global Head of Mobile Products at Visa Inc.

“This summer we will be demonstrating the future of payments in London – a future where most consumers will rely on mobile devices, tablets and PCs to manage their daily financial lives. Our relationship with Samsung gets us closer to that vision, with a stunning new device that is sure to turn heads at the London 2012 Games.”

The showcase device is supported and enabled by London 2012 Games partner Lloyds TSB in the UK.

Mike Regnier, Personal Current Accounts & Credit Cards Director, Lloyds TSB, says: “Mobile payments are set to transform the payment process around the world, and will revolutionise the way people pay in the run up to, during, and beyond the London 2012 Games. We are delighted to be working with Visa to showcase the flexibility and convenience of this new technology at the world’s biggest sporting event, and excited to see the Samsung Galaxy S III in action.”

Visa payWave for mobile allows users to simply select the Visa icon on their mobile device and hold the phone to a contactless payment terminal to pay. Purchases above £20 require a passcode. The application also allows customers to check their transaction history and view their account balance.

How NFC is Transforming Mobile Phones into Payment Devices.

NFC technology has been adopted by payment networks, banks, merchants, mobile device manufacturers and mobile network operators as the global standard for mobile payments.

NFC is already becoming the norm: Berg Insight reports that annual global sales of NFC-equipped handsets has increased ten-fold to 30 million devices in 2011 and is forecasted to reach 700 million units by 2016. In addition, an estimated 20 countries are expected to launch NFC services in the next 18 months, resulting in transactions approaching $50 billion worldwide by 2014, according to Juniper Research.

Samsung, the Worldwide Olympic Partner for Wireless Communications Equipment, and Visa, the Worldwide Olympic Partner and exclusive payment services sponsor, will be demonstrating this new payment innovation with the GALAXY S III in the Olympic Village and throughout London for the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

CTIA2012: eTrak launches new location-tracking product line using wi-fi, cellular and gps.

Dallas-based eTrak launched a breakthrough product line of location-tracking devices today incorporating a patent-pending “Hybrid Tracking System” utilizing Wi-Fi access points, Cell-ID and GPS to ensure pinpoint accuracy (as close as 10 feet) of a person, pet or object. Utilizing the Verizon Network, eTrak devices reveal their location using any computer or smartphone.

Introduced at the CTIA Wireless 2012 trade show in New Orleans, eTrak devices are manufactured in America and are suitable for both the consumer and commercial markets. “The eTrak consumer products will provide safety, peace of mind and help save lives at a very affordable price” said John Harris, CEO of eTrak. “Our commercial product line provides the first high-accuracy, affordable solution for businesses to provide safety and security for everything from employees to assets.”

eTrak’s software platform was recognized as the 2011 International CTIA “Best Enterprise & Vertical Market Solution: Mobile Marketing & Advertising.” eTrak’s domino-sized M2M devices are superior to competing products in accuracy and battery life, are much smaller, and weigh less than an ounce. eTrak also features an emergency call button that sends texts and e-mails to pre-determined recipients with its exact location and the ability to receive turn-by-turn directions. At $99 retail, eTrak products are priced significantly less than other similar products.

The devices are intended for use by anyone who is safety conscious – almost everyone – parents of young children, caregivers, the health-impaired (special needs, diminished capacity), senior citizens, pet owners, vehicle owners, businesses that need to track assets, members of the U.S. military and others.
eTrak products include:
  • Location-Tracking Devices which are used to track the location of a person or object and can be worn on the wrist, ankle or around the neck. The products can be attached to a keyring, belt, backpack or shoelaces, or placed in a pocket, suitcase, car glove box or other places.
  • E-911 Voice Call Device is a “panic button” product that dials 911 directly when pressed, activates two-way dialogue via cellular communication with a 911 operator and generates and forwards the exact location of the device (to within 10 feet) on Bing Maps, with turn-by-turn directions to the device’s location.
  • Hard-wired Auto Device is a plug-and-play location-tracking product that connects to a vehicle port, operates on the vehicle’s charging system, permanently mounts under the dash for concealed tracking and qualifies for insurance discounts.

CTIA2012: Dialogic to Demonstrate 4G/LTE Mobile Video Communication Services for Service Providers.

Dialogic to Demonstrate 4G/LTE Mobile Video Communication Services for Service Providers

Enabling mobile video calling, conferencing and collaboration across three screens, Dialogic empowers carriers to monetize existing network with superior video offerings

Dialogic Inc. a leading provider of communications technologies that power advanced networks, today announced a public demonstration of a mobile video communication service featuring Dialogic® PowerMedia™ Software.

The mobile video demonstration will showcase popular smartphone and tablet devices connecting to a video conference over a live 4G/LTE network, with the distinguishing and compelling option to stream video content into the conference.

The streaming video element of PowerMedia Software readily lends itself to many social, business and vertical market-oriented applications. The demonstration, scheduled for May 8th, will show that service providers can use SIP-based mobile apps to help deliver rich communication services today, including video calling, conferencing and collaboration. The service will be publicly demonstrated for the first time over a 4G/LTE network at CTIA Wireless 2012.

Consumers are looking to communicate in richer and more collaborative ways. Using IMS and IMS-like architectures along with 4G/LTE networks, Dialogic and its application partners empower service providers to implement a suite of rich communication services that leverage top trends in smart endpoints and mobile broadband IP networks. The use of standards-based SIP application server and multimedia server software such as PowerMedia sets the stage for innovation in rich IP communications services to a wide variety of endpoints including laptops, iPhones and Android smartphones, iPads and Android tablets using 4G/LTE networks and Wi-Fi networks, as well as traditional networked computer workstations using the public Internet.

“Carriers’ video conferencing offerings have never really taken off, either because they required expensive dedicated endpoints or because they simply didn’t offer the quality users expected in a paid service,” said Jan Dawson, Chief Telecoms Analyst at Ovum. “Today’s wired and mobile networks finally offer sufficient bandwidth to allow for high quality video conferencing, but the best efforts nature of the Internet has meant that over the top services struggle to deliver consistent high quality experiences, even when high bandwidth is available.”

The combined power of SIP application servers, multimedia servers and IMS network infrastructure opens the door for service providers to monetize their latest wireless broadband networks with a superior mobile video offering. Service providers can provide a high level QOS/QOE by exercising control over real-time communications traffic through network, endpoint and NOC monitoring and management. They maintain a direct service, billing and marketing relationship with their customers, simplifying the buying and billing process for value added services. Additionally, the open standard approach championed by Dialogic and its ecosystem partners allows carriers and application developers to be able to innovate and differentiate along the value chain, from client applications to the service infrastructure and business model.

“4G/LTE represents one of the ‘last wireless miles’ of broadband service enabling the delivery of richer IP communication services to mobile devices. It offers an opportunity for service providers to embrace innovation and position themselves to positively impact ARPU by enhancing the mobile experience for their customers,” said Kevin Gould, Vice President and General Manager of Dialogic’s Value Added Services and Cloud Enabling Group. “And the proliferation of smartphones, tablets and laptops using this network shows that consumers are ready and willing to increase their services spending on mobile video communications and applications.”

The demonstration service is delivered on IMS-ready Dialogic® PowerMedia™ Software and Dialogic® BorderNet™ Session Border Controllers with a standards-based SIP application server and video conferencing application from APEX Voice Communications. The combined solution set is generally available through APEX Voice Communications for deployment in a variety of service provider networks.

Dialogic will demonstrate the service on a wide range of mobile devices over Verizon’s 4G/LTE network and the public Internet during a press briefing at the CTIA Wireless Show in New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, May 8th at 11:00 am (CDT) in Meeting Room #211. Alternatively, private briefings in the Dialogic meeting room at CTIA may be arranged through the listed press contacts below.
